Criteria and Indicators to Define Priority Areas for Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam

چکیده

Balancing biodiversity conservation with land use for agricultural production is a major societal challenge. Conservation activities must be prioritized since funds and resources are insufficient in the context of current threats, competes other priorities. In order to contribute priority-setting literature, we applied an environmental model, Pressure–State–Response (PSR), develop set criteria identifying priority areas Vietnam. Our empirical data have been compiled from 185 respondents categorized into three groups: Governmental Administration Organizations, Universities Research Institutions, Protected Areas. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) theory was used identify weight all criteria. results show that levels identified by these factors 41% “Pressure”, 26% “State”, 33% “Response”. Based on factors, seven seventeen indicators were developed determine conservation. Besides, our study also reveals groups organizations Areas put focus “Pressure” factor, while group Institutions emphasized importance “Response” factor evaluation process. We suggest

Biodiversity, Urban Areas, and Agriculture: Locating Priority Ecoregions for Conservation

Urbanization and agriculture are two of the most important threats to biodiversity worldwide. The intensities of these land-use phenomena, however, as well as levels of biodiversity itself, differ widely among regions. Thus, there is a need to develop a quick but rigorous method of identifying where high levels of human threats and biodiversity coincide. These areas are clear priorities for bio...

Biogeographic Crossroads as Priority Areas for Biodiversity Conservation

Threats to biodiversity outpace the resources of the conservation community and necessitate careful prioritization of conservation actions. I suggest that targeting the regions where biogeographic assemblages intersect—“biogeographic crossroads”—is a strategy that may achieve significant conservation economy by focusing on areas that satisfy many conservation criteria. I used a combination of d...

Criteria and Indicators for Assessing the Sustainability of Forest Management: Conservation of Biodiversity

The need for new criteria and indicators for the assessment of biodiversity conservation as part of sustainable forest management of tropical forests has been identified as a priority by many international organisations. Those biodiversity criteria and indicators which formed part of a much broader initial assessment by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) (Prabhu et al. 1996)...

Priority Areas for Large Mammal Conservation in Equatorial Guinea

Hunting is one of the main driving forces behind large mammal density distribution in many regions of the world. In tropical Africa, urban demand for bushmeat has been shown to dominate over subsistence hunting and its impact often overrides spatial-ecological species characteristics. To effectively protect remaining mammal populations the main factors that influence their distribution need to ...
